I wish I could be cool in the sun was painted as part of the series "The California Series Yet to be Named." The cool colors used to depict the hot landscape of an area in Palm desert, California is a contrast I felt while there. A literal desire to be cool in such a hot climate while shooting reference photos to take back to my Indiana studio.
Funny story: A reporter for the Indianapolis Star followed my journey, via social media, through California as I took reference photos of the landscape and the subsequent paintings from that series. As she wrote she referenced the journey and the work as "The California Series Yet to be Named." I loved it, of course, and did not want to lose the continuity of her stories with the work itself. So I kept the title for the exhibition.
