Fumbling Through the Gray by Katrina J. Murray
Fumbling Through the Gray

Painted while I was immersed in research on the Large Hadron Collider and the strange, elusive world of particle physics, Fumbling Through the Gray emerged from a period of questioning what can be seen, what can be measured, and what remains just beyond our understanding.

The painting took on an unexpected personal resonance. Just before completing the Particle Physics series, I suffered a concussion in a car accident. For a time, the familiar world became unfamiliar—thoughts felt fragmented, perception uncertain, and even ordinary things seemed to exist in a kind of gray space.

Looking back, I see this painting as a meeting point between scientific inquiry and lived experience: the search for something invisible, the uncertainty of what lies beneath the surface, and the human impulse to keep moving forward even when the way is unclear.

Fumbling Through the Gray is part of my Particle Physics series.
